· Sports and discipline should be under PT Teacher, but others should also be responsible.

· Alumni should contact respective teachers for progress and try to give related materials and guidance.

· Life is meant to struggle; Teachers should develop quality so they can make all students their friend. It could be done easily by talking on personal issues like family, their ambitions, likes and dislikes each day with few students. Invite few of them at their quarter for tea or biscuits. Really teaching is the noblest profession in the society and its prestige will increase if they are able to make such personal relations. In this way they can be the makers of nation, a strong nation.

· Consciousness of alumni towards the school is good sign. Each and every citizen must make their voice for their system. Public opinion is the backbone of healthy democracy.

Minutes of the Meet

Day 1 27/12/2007

1.00pm Arrival of alumni in school

1.00-3.00pm Lunch and informal interaction with students

3.00-4.00pm Volleyball match between alumni and students was played. Students played very nice but they lost by 2:1 to alumni.

4.00-7.00pm Alumni addressed students for utility of Navodaya life in future. Stress was given to make students aware about the competitive outer world. Importance of cultural programs and extracurricular activities in life was told with priority to academics. Vision for outstanding performance in country was shown to students strongly. In between, cultural programs by students were performed. Drama played by class V1 students with guidance of one senior girl was amazing. Kavvali, Rajasthan dance and all others are performed with excellence. Many programs was cancelled due to cold. Remarkably they all get prepared within two hours after information for programs in the absence of music teacher (he was ill). Shanta Kumar involved alumni and students in some game of fun that can be played on the stage. All students laughed and enjoyed a lot.

7.00-8.00pm A formal meeting with teachers took place. We put our proposals to the teachers. Each and every points was discussed to come up some realistic and possible final proposal to followed further for better and overall development of the students. Interest of teachers was also considered in the proposal.

8.00-9.00pm Dinner

9.00pm Alumni went hostels to interact with students stressing over importance

of cultural activities and discipline.

Day 2 28/12/2007

9.00-9.15am Morning Assembly

9.15-12.01pm Group of two or three alumni went in classes and talked about cultural activities. A culture of club for development of different field was presented to students. Possible activities were also told. Students also thought about other creativities, that can be done for progress of club. Then students were encouraged to be part of club and carry some responsibility. Almost all students became part of some clubs.

12.0-1.00pm Conclusive meeting with teachers was done where all shown hope and determination for development.

Proposal For betterment:

1. Student should be punished for misbehaviors and in disciplinary activities. If needed they should be sent to home with proper understanding with guardians. Along with punishment, teachers should develop emotional attachment with students.

2. Morning P.T. should be compulsory for all ( 10and 12^th class should be spared after pre board)

3. Cleaning inspection on each Sunday evening.

4. 2^nd Monday of each month- Academic program involving quiz, speech, debate, etc.

5. Last Monday of each Month – Musical/cultural program

6. Assembly duty should be allocated by class teachers on roll call basis without separating boys and girls.

7. Surprise supervision

8. Roll call at night in the hostel before night prayer

9. Second and last Saturday of month as Movie day (only one movie should be shown)

10. News channel should be open during dinner with half an hour tolerance, strictly news channel and other channel should not be tried

11. Evening assembly should be combined

12. There should be healthy sport culture

13. Responsibility of each club should be in hand of few teachers and alumni also will be associated with clubs to know what activities are going on.

14. Individual assessment of each student should be done. Weakness and strength should be told to students. Student must be told that they are going in wrong direction and so be checked. In the similar way good students should always be encouraged.

Objective

Career Counseling:

1) Making student aware about the competitive world.

2) Various opportunities after class 12, in all possible fields like Science , Arts, Engineering, Medical, Commerce and Banking, Law, Civil Services, Language Courses, etc.

3) Suggestions for how to utilize Navodaya for achieving their goal as well complete personality development, stressing that one could achieve their goal even staying in Navodaya.

4) Movie on success stories of seniors from Navodaya system for motivation.

5) Various options in outer world for preparation for competitive examinations.

6) Various scholarships.

Minutes of the day:

Day 1: 21/12/2007

4.00pm Arrival of the team of students on the behalf of AINAA(All India Navodaya Alumni Association) in the school campus.

4.00-5.00pm Formal meeting with Principal and teachers.

5.00-6.00pm Informal interaction with students in their hostel and guiding them.

6.30-8.00pm Video session: Video was on inspiring, true, struggling and success story of Mr. Kamlesh Kumar from JNV Mau in his own words (A journey from small village to a good job in Chicago.) Further methodology for how to prepare for the competitive examinations was also shown. This Video CD along with CD on life of BABA Amte was offered to music sir to be kept in library.

8.00-9.00pm Dinner

9.00-10.0pm Meeting with Principal and teachers for getting the existing problem in the school. Stress was to find out what to be counseled to the students along with career guidance. This was required because students has to do well in the existing facilities.

10.00- Alumni went in hostels to interact with students informally, to share experiences in Navodaya Life with the motive to direct the students towards their goal. After interactions, all slept in hostels.

Day2: 22/12/2007

6.00-7.00am Morning PT was conducted with alumni. All took part actively. Few important Yoga postures were also performed with their importance for life.

8.30-9.00am Morning Assembly. A formal introduction of Alumni was given. One career counseling brochure and the magazine "MIMANSA" (whose editor is Vijay Kumar Mishra, student of JNV Darbhanga) was handed over to principal sir for their circulation in library. The assembly was concluded after the welcome speech of principal sir.

9.30-1.45pm All students went in their respective classes. Alumni were grouped for going in all classes. Each group concentrated on different fields’ viz. Engineering, Medical, Arts, Commerce and Banking, Management, Language courses. Alumni interacted with students in the class and suggested solutions for all individual problems and queries of students. Due to pre-board exam, class 10^th and 12^th students were not included.

1.45-2.30pm Lunch

2.30-4.30pm Career Counseling to class 10^th and 12^th students in detail. Both classes were instructed how to do well in board examinations. 12^th students were suggested what they should do after leaving Navodaya. Class 10^th students were suggested to utilize their time after Board exams for better preparation for competitions.

4.30-8.00pm Alumni played with students. They interacted with students till dinner. Few students met the Principal to decide the date for alumni meet of Darbhanga Navodaya Vidyalaya. Very good, sensitizing and constructive conversation took place. A ray of hope was again seen in teachers community.

8.00-9.00pm Dinner

9.00pm Alumni moved to Hostels for further interaction and rest.

Day 3: 23/12/2007

In the early morning Sumit, Shanta and Faheem with Principal Sir left the school for attending the National Alumni meet in Katihar organized by AINAA (All India Navodaya Alumni Association) for reporting the performance of the school and participating in further activities.

Responsibility

A social person has different role to play at different level. He gets recognition how well he is playing his given role. Let’s see our expected role towards different system:

Individual: Everyone is expected to keep one’s own body well maintained. Body should be strong and healthy; mind should be sound and heart pure. How many of us are honest towards the well being of our own body? (Big Hotels serving Pizzas and many others such items, drinks, drugs industries etc are flourishing well. What does it show?)

Family: All are supposed to take of their own family members. Father, mother, sister, brothers and relatives all play a big role in our life and we all expect to take care of them. (Sorry to say this bond is also loosening with time.)

Society: After family, we try to play our role for the welfare of our own society. It may be village. It may be school or etc. So to whom we are coming directly in contact after family forms society for us.

Nation: It is a larger entity. Although it is not visible how nation is affecting our lives, but it plays great role and say it is the most powerful concept in one’s life. A person who has penchant for culture, compassion for humanity and pride for the achievements for his country-men in past and present, and will to correct all discrepancy knows what nation is meant for. (Indian nationalism envisioned the well being of whole world)

As mind becomes more conscious, it tries to take role of higher entity.

Note: The work of Ashram is direct service to nation. For this cause some person has abandon his family role, societal role and devoted his all time and effort only for this purpose. Some need to offer some time leaving personal comfort zone. Some need to give money and resources.

I again reiterate things about the Sewakunj Ashram:

It is situation in Chapki away from urban or rural settlement in the lap of nature in Sonebhadra district, only district of Uttar Pradesh where tribals live. People have to leave in extreme form of poverty. People are also not educated and they all are prone to get misled by naxalism or other anti-national activities.

This Ashram keeps 75 children of these tribals. Students are brought from different villages to cover the whole district.

They have limited resources to live upon and also there is no proper facility for education. Currently each student is kept at the cost of 6-7 rupees a day due to lack of resources. What are our expectations?

Adopt a child, for this you have to contribute Rs. 6000 or Rs. 500 monthly.

Contribute for providing teaching facility:

1. Teacher’s monthly salary: Rs. 12000 (for math and science), Rs. 8000 (for other subject).

2. Contribute in other form (computers, lab instruments, projectors, books, copies, pens etc.)

3. Visit Ashram at least once. (Spending some days here would be beneficial for Ashram and enlightening for you)

Finally: Contribute generously.

Vidyalaya se Bhojanalaya Tak

Some of my colleague insisted me start a class room teaching. They were fed up with my thoughts and wanted to be involved in real stuff. I was waiting for an occasion. It was the day of Raksha Bandhan. We conducted a healthy discussion on the topic "Raksha Bandhan se Rashtra ki Suraksha tak". We tied Raksha Sutra to one another and made promises to stay together and work for the welfare of nation. Then we went in Sirsoti village, five kilometer away from my hostel. This village was completely unknown to us. We just took some sacred threads and some sweets and entered in the villages. There are scattered homes. Ladies are sitting there milking their children. We felt awkward to talk them and went inside the villages. There were some children playing in the field in rags conditions. None of them looked clean. We called them. Initially they feared, but some of them daring ones approached us. We hugged them and tied the thread on their wrist. Then we gave them sweets. Suddenly many bunches of children started coming. One old man also came to what is going. We explained them about the wider importance of Raksha Bandhan and told about my plans to teach them. They all were very happy. To give jerk on their minds we recited Vande Mataram and they followed.

The very next day we started the program. We spent one hour every day. Within three days the number of children reached hundred. It was difficult for us to manage such a huge number. We also not wanted to discourage them for telling them not to come.

Although there are students from all classes, class one to tenth. But none of them can do simple mathematical calculation like addition, multiplication. Some of them are good in study, but the rest can’t read books. Half of them even don’t know how to read. So we plan to teach them so that they could learn to read and do simple mathematics. After that we have in mind that most of them will automatically will stop coming as we would stringent the rules.

Now the task was how to manage such a huge mass. We have very limited volunteers as we all have to go there after riding for 5 Kms. So we divided from class 4 to 10th into four groups. Two groups for girls and two groups for boys were made naming after Vivekand, Subhash, Laskmibai and Anusuya. One of them can read and do simple mathematics. The other group can’t read well. Again class one to third was divided into two parts one for girls and the other for boys.

Teach Themselves

We assigned two to three boys among themselves to help other to read and remember counting. We taught the rest of them. This process brought result and within a week much improvement was visible. Almost all of them learn to read and many of them remember counting. All got chance read for four two pages every day and that helped them develop reading habit.

We taught the rest to understand Hindi in better way to extract the meaning of writing and a bit difficult mathematics process.

We assigned the task to my colleague and moved on for other important work. As people lack confidence so the effect is also diffused. My colleagues asked me something concrete. Seeing the situation I suggested them to select a few good one and focus on them for some concrete result.

After a long interval I went that place. One woman came with her three children. First they feared but then introduced them to me. One of them was in class sixth. It was shocking that she can’t read a single line in her book. She went school daily for past 6 years. She appeared in all the examination and declared passed (I have made video of my conversation with her, but it is too big to insert here). This is an alarming situation. Such dubious education policy will distort our country.

For increasing attendance, our primary schools, which shapes the future India is turned into Bhojanalaya.

Some Facts about our Bhojanalaya:

1. Not a single student from any class can read fluently even Hindi. Some who inherent desire to study know better, they are also at very low standard.

2. None of them can do addition confidently.

3.None of them can write anything correctly.

4. None of them understand Hindi well. They don't know the meaning of simple words at all.

5. Not a single one of them have read ten pages (better say five pages) a day.

6. Although they don't know Hindi at all, they all always insist us to teach English. Their parents are asks for the same although most of them are illiterate.

Facts: Yes it is true, all students have to work at their home, like cooking and cleaning. But six hour in school is enough to make them educated persons. But sorry to my country, to my nation now schools are also involving them in cooking and feeding.

It is better for students to work in field, graze their goats in fields rather sit idle in schools.
